The Quantum computer is the next generation of advanced computers that are way beyond supercomputers in terms of power and smartness. Now, a quantum computer is not like regular computers and is also different from supercomputers. That is because those types of traditional computers use binary codes, which are bits to operate. On the other hand, a quantum computer uses qubits that are different in nature and properties.
Quantum computers are machines that use the properties of the quantum world to solve problems that are way too complex for regular computers and even supercomputers. However, quantum computers are extremely faster than current-day computers since they use a different approach to computing. Instead of using bits, a quantum computer uses qubits for computation. Now, we all know the quantum computer is inspired by quantum physics. For those who don’t know, quantum physics talks about the subatomic world and particles. And physics works far more differently on the subatomic level. And that’s inspired scientists to work on a computer that can harness the properties of the quantum world and work faster and more efficiently than no computers can achieve.
Now, you can ask me how this computer will work. But. Let’s talk about some concepts that quantum computer is based on.
Qubits
In traditional computers, including supercomputers, binary codes are used, which are called bits, One and Zero. These two are used for storing and processing information. These two codes work as on and off switches on the computer system. But the quantum computer doesn’t use those bits. And instead, it uses qubits that have flexibility. For example, in your traditional computer, data can be processed with bits in either one or zero. But quantum computers get way beyond that and can use a combination of all.
Superposition
In quantum physics, there is a term called superposition that explains the behaviour of particles that exists in multiple states at once. And quantum computer uses that property so that it can create qubits. How? Well, in traditional computers, bits can be either one or zero, as I mentioned earlier. But in a quantum computer, it can be either one, zero, or both at the same time. That’s how qubits are created and work way faster. That is because it can complete any task 158 million times faster than supercomputers. At the same time, it can complete multiple tasks at once at incredible speed. It doesn’t matter. You need to perform a hundred tasks or a billion. It will start doing all the tasks at once.
Entanglement
Quantum computer also uses a quantum phenomenon in the computer system called entanglement. It refers that when two qubits are entangled, changing one will affect the other qubit instantly. This property is used so that more complex problems and tasks can be solved in a small amount of time.
These are the concepts and quantum properties that are adapted to the quantum computer for superior computation. It’s a theoretical concept, and scientists are working hard to develop a standard quantum computer. The most popular and industrial used quantum computer is owned by IBM; they created it in 2019, which is called Quantum System One.
